Eleanor of Aquitaine

The following is the first in a planned series of "resource lists" on favorite topics in French history -- my own, and others as - suggested -- to be added gradually and maintained and updated periodically here on FYI France. Printed book and journal, manuscript, and multimedia resources all will be included, filed in ascending order by date of publication, in addition to online resources. The intention is to provide someone interested in the particular subject with a starting point, and perhaps even to provide a researcher or scholar with a point of reference at least for filling in gaps. When / as possible illustrations and links will be added, as well.

And no "bibliography" is useful without "call numbers": in what follows a call number, where shown, unless otherwise indicated refers to the collections of the University of California -- many thanks to the indispensable people who maintain same, both the collections and their excellent Melvyl online library catalog -- and other largely US libraries which use the same call numbering system.

Thanks to Katherine Hepburn, Women's Liberation, and a number of other recent factors, Eleanor's significance now transcends any "historical accuracy" pretentions which research regarding her and her era once had. There no longer is a little girl or little boy, or anyone older who previously has thought about Eleanor, who might not benefit from an examination or re - examination of the historical role of this remarkable woman. With this anomaly in mind -- that Eleanor's new modern role may be as significant as her historical role -- resources relating to both are included here. The hope of any bibliographer is to find at least a little more than the user knew about already: if any user -- young or old, casual or scholarly -- can suggest additions to what appears here, particularly of journal articles, these will be received gratefully via email to kessler@well.sf.ca.us .
