Versions of the following have appeared online regularly, since 1992, as a feature of the FYI France ejournal, ISSN 1071-5916, which is distributed for free via email every month except August. Ejournal subscriptions may be obtained via email request to: kessler@well.com

Here this file is one of a number made available -- hopefully attractively, all in one place, and relevant to libraries and online digital information work in France and Europe. Please email suggestions for improvements to me at kessler@well.com

Recent books, “e” & other, on libraries in France, “digital” & other

R ecent books, “e” & other, on libraries in France, “digital” & other... by “format”, so some of these have been published before, but all should be of interest to anyone concerned with media and their “transitions”, printing, publishing, the Internet, the Digital, and libraries & data & information & “Le Défi Google”... and “texts”, in 2017 and later... also some new views on earlier developments in same...

And a Note:

There are only about-50 entries here, among 1000’s of possibilities nowadays — these topics have become very popular, or at least well-published — time was, not so long ago, when books about “libraries” and “digital” and “information” were few, but then “The Internet” came along and clearly has changed all that.

The precise reading selection here, then, is made for all sorts of reasons, each “text” being intended merely to suggest the mountain of literature it represents — we may not yet be at the information-overload Götterdämerung which was predicted and feared by so many just a few years back... although at the moment our floods & fires & politics all seem to be conspiring against us, some days now... As I sit here in my beautiful little city on the other side of the planet from Lyon, today, perched on the edge of the Pacific, my water increasingly is irradiated, my air is “Very Hazardous” to inhale, my politics are beyond understanding or explanation, so some syncretic situation may be slouching — we San Franciscans say, “All we need now is an earthquake...”

My friends the French, however, ‘way over on their other-side of the planet, have very _different_ “takes” on all such topics, at least: examining said differences — and viva les différences! — can have a salutary effect when times are tough, as at least they suggest alternatives, to be rejected to be smug, or to be seriously considered if things here really do seem stuck.

So an international and comparative look at all of this current noise can be very comforting, and sometimes even helpful: today seems to be one of those days, for that... it’s another red & smoky sunset...

But, & en dépit..., happy reading,
